Mamandram Events

Karunai Illam Visit by the Malaysia Hindu Dharma Mamandram (MHDM) Youth section.

MHDM Youth members Mr.Prasad, Ms.Shri, Ms.Yamunah and Mr.Pugal along with a few other friends made a visit to Karunai Illam on 1st August 2010. This event was actually a follow-up to a project in December 2009, when the youths brought a group of 20 children from Karunai Illam for a one day field trip to FRIM, complete with a guided tour, educational explanations, canopy walk and food. Since the previous event, the youths and their friends have set up a small fund for social/welfare work to which they contribute a small fund each month.

Karunai Illam is a home for orphans and under-privileged children run by Saiva Siddhanta Mandram. The Illam is home to 19 girls managed by a full-time warden and a management committee comprising volunteers from the society.

With some money from their fund, the youths bought supplies that are necessary for the home such as Milo, milk powder, detergent, soap, etc. Another friend, Ms.Kohgilaa and her family contributed body soap and toothpaste for use by the children at the home. Dinner for everyone was sponsored by Ms.Suvarna and her family and consisted of vegetarian food and payasam. After beginning the event with prayers, the youths played games which were organized by Yamunah with the children while waiting for dinner to arrive. After dinner, Prasad shared a story about the environment while Shri told a motivational story. They handed out the supplies and gifts to the Illam and said their goodbyes, leaving the children with smiles on their faces. The group plans to continue this sort of activities in the future, trying to make a difference, however small, and give back to the community from which they have gained so much. God Bless.

Quote of the Day

Hinduism is not just a faith. It is the union of reason and intuition that cannot be defined but is only to be experienced. Evil and error are not ultimate. There is no Hell, for that means there is a place where God is not, and there are sins which exceed his love.
