Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati
Sunday, September 28th, 2008His Holiness Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati Swamigal was the Paramacharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham from 1907 until 1994. Born on May 20, 1894, he was installed as the head seer of the Kanchi Math at the age of 13 and presided over an important period for the monastery and India as a whole. During his tenure, the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham gained new strength as a leading Hindu institution, propagating the teachings of Adi Shankara and espousing Vedanta philosophy. Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati was also very concerned with the preservation of the Vedas and Dharma Shastras. He attained samadhi in his centenary year in Kanchipuram.
