Paper submitted to Malaysian Minister of Human Resources and MIC Secretary-General Y.B. Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam on July 31, 2008 at a meeting of non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Malaysia. The paper outlines the state of Hindus and Indians in the country as well as the efforts of Malaysia Hindu Dharma Mamandram (MHDM) to address the issues facing the community. The paper also has recommendations for the government to help the Hindus in Malaysia, including in the areas of religious education, Hindu temples, economic and social issues confronting Hindus as well as opportunities available to Malaysian Hindus.

Thaipusam is one of the biggest religious celebrations in Malaysia, drawing millions of devotees and tourists to the main centers of Thaipusam - Batu Caves, Penang, and Ipoh.
